Taj Mahal

The Taj MahalTodays visit to the Taj Mahal has been an absolutely surreal experience! We all graciously woke up to a 3am alarm, aiming to take on the Taj by sunrise, which was a three-hour bus ride to Agra. Between cutting out various patterns, toiles and a make do mothers day card for our India mum Sue, we managed to get an hour and a half sleep before embarking on our exciting journey, adrenaline alone kept us moving.

We have been absolutely spoilt by Education New Zealand, Massey and of course also our new friends from NIFT and Pearl fashion schools, who provided us with our eloquent tour guide who really enriched the whole experience. Through the haze of the gentle sunrise tones, the glow of the white Makrana marble and a sleepless glaze in our eyes, the atmosphere put us in a dreamy state with only the amount of selfies and questionable poses to bring us back to reality.

IMG_5036Walking around through the gardens accompanied by squirrels and monkeys, listening to the stories that company the Taj Mahal was an experience I cannot express through words. The entire atmosphere, created through the optical illusions in the architecture, the intricate detailing in every panel and shape is something that could not be imitated anywhere else.

As our tour concluded we found ourselves in a confused state of awe and hunger, so our efficient tour guide led us to a gorgeous restaurant near by which served our breakfast in the form of Paneer Tikka Masala and Naan to top off our incredible morning. It was such an unforgettable morning that Yoshi, Kristen and I are so grateful for this opportunity.
